Developing Skills in Social Care with Erasmus Plus – KA 1 Mobility in Childcare

Erasmus Plus Certificate Ceremony Almond Vocational Link Plymouth UKIn the early March of 2016 we welcomed a group of 16 trainee carers from Italy. Thanks to the Erasmus Plus funding, they had an opportunity to undertake work experience placement at local nurseries. The girls were accompanied by several teachers from their school who were here to assist them during weekend excursions, attend appointments with the work placement supervisors and communicated with Almond. All of the participants underwent a full Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in their country of origin which was given to their work experience placements supervisors prior to starting work.

We have successfully managed to find good quality work experience placements with local childcare providers where under the watchful eye of the supervisors, our students had an opportunity to participate in day to day tasks as a nursery practitioner. As final year students of social care, specialising in childcare, it was an invaluable experience for our Erasmus Plus participants. They have previously participated in internships in their home country and this was a unique opportunity to see what approach does UK have on early years child care and preparation for school, especially that children in the UK start school a year earlier than in Italy.

I really liked my work placement and all the staff there. They were organised, clean and everyone was very kind to me. I would have liked to get to know them better and would work with them again. My host family was amazing. Wendy is a good woman and she was like mother to me while I was here. She made me feel welcome right from the beginning. She cooked us everything we asked for and she spent a lot of time talking to us, which improved my English. I will miss her. The service provided by Almond was satisfying. I had no problem with this organisation, they helped me with my work placement  and I was happy about my accommodation so I would recommend Almond to others

Elena from Italy about her Erasmus Plus KA 1 Mobility Work Experience in Childcare

The feedback we have received from all the work places was very positive. Our students were especially complimented on their professionalism, enthusiasm, friendliness, it was adamant that they enjoy working with children and hope to start successful careers in childcare once they finish their studies. We were delighted to hear such positive comments which confirmed that our students were great help to each of the businesses. We would like to thank all the nurseries involved for being so welcoming, helpful, kind and friendly to our students and for allowing them to learn from you and your wonderful teams. It’s always great to see the mutual benefit our international students and local companies receive thanks to Erasmus Plus. All of the students were awarded with a Certificate of Completion for their successful participation in this Erasmus Plus mobility.

The tasks met my expectations, they were even better. I didn’t think I was going to be able to do so many things in my work placement and the staff were very welcoming and kind. I was able to play with children, interact and look after them with my supervisor always with me.
