In June 2016 we had a pleasure of hosting a group of 11 students from our new partner school in Germany. The participants took part in a 2 week Erasmus Plus Key Action 1 Mobility Work Experience as well as preparatory 15 hrs of English Language Training with our tutor – Kevin Chambers.
Upon their arrival at Bretonside Bus Station, the students were greeted by their host families and representative from Almond Vocational Link. They were also escorted by their teachers – Elke and Frank, who were there to ensure a smooth start and were supporting their young learners on their first day in UK. All of the students were given Almond Vocational Link’s Student Handbooks and were invited to a welcome meeting followed by a tour of Plymouth on the next day.
Almond Vocational Link arranged host family accommodation in single rooms on half board basis, found suitable work experience placement and organised a 15 hour English Language Training Course. Each of the students was escorted to their host company on their first day by a member of staff. Almond Vocational Link took on the role of monitoring progress, mentoring and supporting the students in all aspects of their stay. The participants were invited to weekly 1:1 sessions in order give feedback on their accommodation and work experience placement. In addition, the students were also able to contact Almond Vocational Link via the Emergency Students Line outside of office hours
During their stay in the UK, the beneficiaries had the opportunity to put in practice some of the competences, skills and knowledge that
they acquired during the time of their studies. They had an opportunity to improve their English and prepare for their future career on the international labour market. Students learnt about working life abroad by doing practices in companies located in Plymouth. They learnt how to behave at work and respect the internal rules of an organization, worked in a team as well as on own initiative and improved their social and intercultural skills.
All the students received certificates of completion to award them for their efforts during internships and English language training.
